The embargo on reviews and content for Asgard’s Wrath 2 has just been lifted. However, the scope and review rules prevent us from writing a proper review.

According to the reviewer’s guide, Asgard’s Wrath 2 offers a whopping 134 hours of playtime — for so-called “completionists”, i.e., those who explore every nook and cranny, graze every bush, and complete every side quest. But even if we assume 30 to 40 hours for a normal playthrough in story mode, Asgard’s Wrath is the most extensive native VR game to date.

The first phase of the VR game (which includes the first 15 hours) has been unlocked for people who got pre-release access. I received access on Saturday last week. The full game won’t be unlocked for reviewers until December 14th, one day before launch.

I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself in the last four days. But on top of my other commitments, I’ve only managed about eight hours of play time — and I haven’t written a review yet, which would take a few more hours.

That’s why we decided today that we won’t publish a review of Asgard’s Wrath 2 until we’ve tested it properly. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable with a half-baked review, especially for the first 15 hours. Due to the late activation of the full game one day before release, we will probably not have a review until the new year.

That’s disappointing, but given the size of the game and the short pre-release testing period, there’s simply no other way for us and our small team to do it.

Nevertheless, I would like to give you some impressions in our Hands-On article about Asgard’s Wrath 2, in case you are considering buying the full-price game. Please keep in mind that these impressions are only from the first eight hours.

Thank you for your understanding.
